Walking into a new healthcare office with your child can feel a little overwhelming—especially if you’ve never been to a chiropractor before.
At re_ Health Studio, our goal is simple: to create a calm, welcoming environment where both you and your child feel comfortable from the moment you arrive.
Whether you’re bringing in a newborn, an active toddler, or a growing teenager, here’s what you can expect during your first visit.
Step 1: We’ll Get to Know Your Family
Every child is unique, and every visit begins with a conversation.
We’ll take time to learn about your child’s:
- Health history
- Pregnancy and birth experience
- Developmental milestones
- Sleep habits
- Feeding history (for infants)
- Current concerns
- Previous injuries or illnesses
- Activities and sports (for older children)
Our goal is to understand the whole picture—not just one symptom.
Step 2: A Thorough Examination
Next, your chiropractor will perform a gentle, age-appropriate evaluation.
Depending on your child’s age, this may include assessing:
- Posture
- Spinal movement
- Range of motion
- Muscle balance
- Reflexes
- Coordination
- Movement patterns
- Nervous system function
For babies, much of the examination simply involves observing how they move, hold their head, feed, and respond to gentle touch.
Step 3: We’ll Explain Everything
We believe parents should feel informed and confident.
After the examination, your chiropractor will review the findings, explain what they observed, answer your questions, and discuss whether chiropractic care may be appropriate.
If we don’t believe chiropractic care is the right fit, we’ll tell you honestly and, when appropriate, recommend another healthcare provider.
Step 4: Gentle, Child-Specific Care
If care is recommended and you choose to move forward, your child’s first adjustment may happen during the same visit.
Parents are often surprised by how gentle pediatric chiropractic care is.
Infant adjustments typically use about the same amount of pressure you’d use to check the ripeness of a tomato. There is no twisting, forceful manipulation, or “cracking” like many people imagine.
Older children receive adjustments that are specifically adapted to their age, size, comfort level, and individual needs.
Will My Child Cry?
Some babies sleep through their adjustment.
Others may cry—not because the adjustment hurts, but because they’re hungry, tired, or simply don’t enjoy being examined by someone new.
Toddlers often want to explore the office, while older children usually become curious about how everything works.
We move at your child’s pace and do our best to make the experience positive and relaxed.
What Should I Bring?
To help make your visit easier, consider bringing:
- A diaper bag with feeding supplies
- A favorite blanket or pacifier
- A comfort toy for toddlers
- Any previous imaging or medical records, if requested
- A list of questions you’d like to discuss
Most importantly, bring yourself! We want you to feel comfortable asking anything that’s on your mind.
